🌊 IPCC: Code red for humanity
The IPCC’s latest report doesn't make for easy reading. Human activity is changing the earth in unprecedented ways: surface temperatures have risen faster than in any other 50-year period over the past 2,000 years and CO2 levels are higher than any point in the last 800,000 years. This is putting us in uncharted territory with sea levels set to rise by 2m by 2100. You can read more here.
🙏 Reasons for hope
Given the above, here is a collection of articles that highlight reasons for hope! The solutions to solve climate change exist - it’s how quickly that they can be rolled out which is the critical point.
🥫 The future of food
With the advance of climate change, the worlds supply chain will be severely disrupted. Lab-grown food could be the solution to the problem, one that is local, less carbon intensive and potentially more nutritious. In this event food expert Johannes le Coutre and journalist Joanna Savill will explore the future of food. You can sign up here.
🚗 Mercedes plans to go all electric by 2030
Joining other car manufactures in their electric vehicle plans, Mercedes announced that it plans to move its entire product portfolio to electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030, alongside a £34b investment and plans to run eight giga factories for battery production. This isn’t surprising as sales of the competing electric Porsche are outselling its flagship car! You can read more here.
🐄 Wilding : The Return of Nature to a British Farm
This book follows the journey of the Knepp estate, a struggling farm that turned to re-wilding to boost its fortunes. The 3,5000 farm worked to turn parts of the farm over to the wild and introduce native cows, pigs and horses to the landscape. The results are astounding with the estate now a hotspot for several endangered species across the UK! You can purchase the book here..
